The Nigerian payments system is still evolving. At least 90% of transactions are based on cash as the medium of value transfer. The setbacks the system has suffered over the years as a result of its over-reliance on cash for settlements has necessitated the need for a reform of the payments system to reduce the level of cash in circulation and move it towards a near-cashless society. |
